The family of the late Zakaria Kitaka Kisingiri (one of the three regents who raised Kabaka Sir Daudi Chwa and signed the 1900 Buganda Agreement on his behalf) has removed former Sc Villa and Uganda Cranes manager Chris Mubiru from the position of heir to the family leadership. This also effectively removes Chris Mubiru form the position of overseer of the family’s considerable estate.
After a meeting that sat at the family home of Mrs. Beatrice Muggale in Rubaga earlier this week, the family of the late Kisingiri wrote a letter to the Kabaka of Buganda, copying in the kingdom Prime minister as well as the clan head of the Mmamba clan to which it belongs, indicating that they have unanimously agreed to demote Chris Mubiru from the role of family partriach.
In the letter the family explained that it has decided to demote Mubiru from leadership because he has consistently behaved in a way that dishonours their great name going back to several generations in the past. Among other things, the family cites Mubiru’s selling of family property without seeking the consent of family members, using family property as security to get bank loans without informing the family as well as publicly conducting himself in a manner that brings disgrace to the family.
Mubiru, as a son of the heir to Zakaria Kisingiri, has been occupying a position that comes with prestige in Buganda kingdom and oversees a considerable family estate.
