How Luzira prison has humbled the Kanyamunyus and Cynthia

Remember the first time Matthew and Joseph Kanyamunyu, and Cynthia, the three prime suspects in the Kenneth Akena murder case appeared in court? They were all jolly, sharing jokes, laughing, pinching themselves and almost playing kawuna in court.

If taking selfies was allowed, they would have pulled out smartphones for that kodak moment and post something like “Slaying in court. Haters cant take my joy”. They were all smiles like they had gone to shoot a toothpaste advert.  At the end of the day, they were remanded to Luzira prison.

The first time the suspects appeared in court, they ere a jolly lot.
Well, this morning, the script all changed. After spending about two weeks in the university of understanding, the three now seem to be vying for a first class degree in humility and resentfulness. The understanding they seem to have acquired is proof that the Luzira is not a joking subject!

They walked out of the infamous maroon Luzira prison bus like weather-beaten birds. They literally crawled to the courtroom with hardly any energy to even look at the cameras. While in the dock, they were visibly disturbed, exhausted, tense and appeared to be feeling the pinch of the degree of offense they are accused of. They could not afford to look at each other. Pale faces with vacant emotions stared at the proceedings.

It looks like the gravity of their situation has sunk in as they were in a somber mood.

According to reports, they had rejected prison food on the first days but later  succumbed to the fact that Luzira is not a private holiday destination but rather a prison. It is said they had expected to carry their comfy six inch spring mattresses, water coolers, and probably WiFi for whatsapp and Facebook live updates. However, they were shocked when, they were treated like any other suspects.

Nakawa court adjourned the case and till December 20.

Looks like it will be a long way ahead for the trio.

There were no hi-fives this time round.
