After the Makerere university teaching staff deciding to throw away their working tools in demand for their salary arrears, students of the university have today joined them in a strike demanding for lessons.

Spearheaded by a delegation from Lumumba, the Makerere students were seen moving around campus collecting their colleagues from different faculties and halls of residence to join them in their campaign of demanding for lecturers.

Heavy police including the anti-riot and red top military have been deployed to prevent any form of violence and calm down rising riots from rowdy lecturers and students.

Despite a meeting between the Makerere University Council and the student representatives which sat earlier today, lecturers have maintained their stance not to step into lecture rooms until their arrears are met.

The university could close if no solution to this impasse is found.
