Uganda Cranes begins World Cup journey with impressive away draw in Ghana

The Cranes starting 11.

Uganda Cranes has started it’s 2018 World Cup qualification journey on a good note with a goalless away draw against the Black Stars of Ghana.

Our boys displayed very nice football despite being away from our Namboole Stadium fortress.

The game was held in the sweltering 35 degree celcius heat of Tamale, but the Cranes managed to keep their cool and hold a star-studded Ghana for the entire 90 minutes.

Cranes managed to control the game in both halves despite various bookings to our players like Khalid Aucho, Murushidi JJuko and Nicholas Waddada who substituted after the referee forgot to show him the red card, following his second yellow card in the game.

Substitute Hassan Wasswa who restored calmness in the team thus being able to contain attacking threats from Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan and Jordan Ayew.

Denis Onyango was unchallenged in the first half of the game but he still managed to do what is expected when de denied a Ghana defender’s header from getting to the back of the net after a well taken corner kick from Ayew in the second half.

The other teams in Group E are playing tomorrow when Congo is hosting Egypt.

Uganda’s next fixture will be against fellow under-dog Congo in Mandela National Stadium on November 7, this year.

Our boys have continued to do us proud this year after managing to break the 38-year curse of not qualifying in AFCON.

Congratulations are in order.
