President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this afternoon released the new cabinet list he is set to work with in his fifth presidential term, and by far the most eyebrow-raising appointment is that of former FDC firebrand Betty Kamya as Minister for Kampala.

In a move that is sure to get Ugandans talking for a long time to come, Betty Kamya has been named as the Minister for Kampala, replacing Frank Tumwebaze who has been moved to the ICT ministry.

The Minister for Kampala is responsible for the running of the capital city and is the overall supervisor of all other government officials in charge of Kamapala, including the Executive Director.

It has long been whispered in Uganda’s political corridors that former FDC stalwart Kamya had behind the curtains crossed to NRM while publicly maintaining her stand  of president of her own party, the Federal Alliance, and the first sing that Kamya would work with the NRM came when she said she would readily work with Museveni to build the country as long as he respected her views and criticism.

However, Kamya is not the only non-NRM minister on the new list, as Museveni has also named ministers from all other political parties except FDC.
