Goals from Luwagga Kizito and Khalid Aucho have earned Uganda a hard-fought victory away to Botswana in Francistown, leaving the Cranes on the brink of qualification for Afcon 2017.

Kizito struck in the 10th minute after an elegant pass from fellow midfielder Tony Mawejje; Botswana equalized through Onkabetse Makgantai seven minutes into the second half; then Khaid Aucho restored Uganda’s lead just two minutes later to set up the score that would stand in Uganda’s favour at full time.

Uganda now moves top of Group D with seven points, but second-placed Burkina Faso are yet to play Comoros away from home and the Burkinabe could regain top-spot by beating the Island nation.

However yet, Uganda now climbs to 10 points, which means it only needs to beat Comoros at home to make 13 points and be assured of one of the two slots available to the couple of runners-up with the best points tally of all the eleven groups of the qualifying race.
