Ziza Bafana says the promoter failed to pay the performance fees, so he is not responsible for the deaths.

Two people lost their lives on Saturday night after a policeman shot them to quell a riot that was sparked off by ragga musician Ziza Bafana not showing up for a show.

Partygoers at Jojo’s Night Club in Bugiri town went irate and started destroying property when they asked for a refund of their Shs5,000 entrance fee that the promoter was reluctant to give back after it turned out that Ziza Bafana would not show up.

Matooke Republic understands that the policeman identified as Wafula Oguttu (not the former Leader of The Opposition) and the promoter of the show one Daniel Basoma, also known as Frog Max were arrested by the Police.

Ziza Bafana’s camp regrets the incident but his manager David Rokani says they are not responsible for the deaths as they couldn’t show up because the promoter had failed to raise their performance fees.

“He only gave us Shs500,000 of the agreed Shs3m. He promised to pay us the balance when we reached Busia but we told him that we couldn’t leave Kampala without at least half the payment,” he said.

Ziza Bafana is set to address a press conference at Calendar Rest House in Makindye this Wednesday.

“It’s we artistes who know what we go through to reach where you see us today. Some promoters take our jobs for granted. Press conference set tomorrow to clear the air,” he said.
