Pope Francis was welcomed with jubilation as he arrived at Entebbe International Airport at about 5.10pm this Friday evening.
There was ululation and the several traditional entertainers playing traditional instruments increased their gusto as the Holy Father descended the Sheperd One plane that came from Nairobi where he had spent the first two days of his maiden trip to Africa.
The 78-year-old Pope was welcomed by President Museveni, first lady Janet Museveni, speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga and the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda Micheal Blume, among other church leaders.
The Pontiff headed to State House Entebbe for a meeting with Ugandan authorities and diplomatic corps. Thousands of Ugandans lined the roads leading to State House to welcome him.
He will visit the Uganda Martyrs’ Shrine in Munyonyo later this evening, to meet catechists and teachers.
