Jamaican singer Nyanda, formerly of the Brick and Lace duo might be a household name in Kampala, but not the entire country. Masaka folks at the Club Mega Fest that happened on Saturday night wondered who Nyanda was. The singer behind hit songs like Trouble and Slippery When Wet only got revellers attention when she performed Love Is Wicked, the runaway hit from her Brick and Lace days.
Jose Chameleone rescued the night, climaxing the show that ended at 4a.m. with a full hour live performance. Yes, the show ended at 4a.m. This was Masaka not Kampala where KCCA and its executive director Jennifer Musisi insist that shows must end by midnight.
Other performers during the night included Gravity Omutujju, Prof. Big Eye, Leila Kayondo, Buchaman, Geoffrey Lutaaya and his wife Irene Namatovu plus deejays Roger and Slick Stuart on the decks.
The has been on for the past three years. It was previously called Masaka Street Jam but it was renamed Mega Fest by sponsors Club Beer. Unlike 2014 where the brewers held a Mega Fest at Namboole Stadium, bringing four international stars on one stage, this year they have decided to spread the fun to upcountry towns. They recently bankrolled Nigerian singer Timaya’s show at the Jinja Mega Fest and Nyanda was taken straight from Kingston Jamaica to Masaka.
Who is next? We shall keep you posted.
