Singer Jackie Chandiru got married to Dutchman Nol Van Vliet last weekend. It was a shocker to many, unlike most celebrity weddings because word only leaked a day before the big do. It was like everyone involved had sworn a vow of secrecy!
Jackie has however opened up to Matooke Republic about the wedding and told us how she met her dream man.
“We met in a hotel lobby in South Sudan where I had gone for work. He was literally staring at me like I was a dream, it was sweet though,” she told us.
Nol was looking at the woman of his dreams and he just couldn’t take his eyes off her. Jackie being a celebrity was used to attention, but there was something magical about Nol’s stare and they soon made acquaintances.
From acquaintances, they became friends, later becoming lovers until last week when they upgraded to man and wife.
We asked Jackie how the proposal was. “He asked me to stay with him till the day I die,” she told us also revealing that the two are headed for honeymoon in Paris- the city of romance.
Nol is a loaded guy running his family’s Van Vliet trucks business (read all about him here) and his wedding ring is not the ones that Ugandan couples buy from Indian jewellers on Kampala Road. It has a pricey real diamond stud encrusted on it. We ask Jackie how much it is worth and she couldn’t name the figure, for her own safety.
“Haaa… telling you its worth is a bit of a trick as I might have people chop off my hand to access to it hehehe…” she joked.
The singer is also one to love ink and we asked if Nol’s name is tattooed anywhere on her body. “I just got words that are meaningful to both of us,” she told us.
And her discrpition of Nol? “I am with a beautiful soul, humorous and loving soul… I thank the almighty every day for him,” she said.
It was earlier reported that Nol was until recently, married to a Sudanese model Adut Mawien, but that is history and Chandiru is the one wearing the ring now as Mrs Jackie Van Vliet.
“Everyone in a relationship has a history. Everyone who gets married has an ex or exes, what matters is the present and future. If two people are happy together, that is all that matters.”
We wish the Van Vliets a happy marriage.
