Fallen singer Harriet Kisakye is to be buried at a Catholic parish in Bunamwaya instead of her ancestral home in Kayunga. It was the singer’s death wish that she buried at the church after she requested the parish priest and he gave her the green light in case the Lord was to call her.

Abdul Karim Lukoda, a friend who was at her death bed said that when she realised she was losing the battle for her life, she told him that a priest had previously given her a go ahead to be buried at the church.

“I went to the church on Wednesday to follow up on her wish, but the parish priest was sick and they couldn’t allow me to see him. I told another priest who said it was only the parish priest who could handle the matter so he had to consult,” Lukoda told mourners during a vigil at National Theatre on Sunday night.

Some fellows cashed in Kisakye's death, selling T-shirts and calenders during the vigil.

“Fortunately, the priest who was consulted said he knew about the matter and he had given the go ahead for her to be buried at the church because the land belonged to the parish and she had been an ardent church-goer who also religiously tithed,” he added.

“The priest had one condition, that there should not be wrangles involved, with family members “fighting” for the body to be taken to her ancestral grounds.”

Lukoda said that when Kisakye passed on, he brought the matter to the attention of the family members who accepted her death wish. “We sat together with her family, plus Mubarak Kawooya, the father of one of her two children and other members of the music fraternity like Musa Kavuma of Golden Band and we agreed to hold the funeral along those lines,” he added.

There will be a funeral mass at 2pm at the parish in Bunamwaya and Kisakye will be laid to rest at 4pm this Monday afternoon. Rest In Peace.
