Rn’B singer Maro graduated with a Bachelor of Development Studies degree from Makerere University earlier today.

The singer real names (Ronald Magada) was overjoyed because he one time had to drop out of campus, in order to pursue a music career.

After releasing his debut single Tonelaga,  with Empress and Mickie Wine in 2010, his father a Police commander was not amused and Maro had to flee their home in Nsambya Police barracks, to escape his father’s wrath.  It meant he had also kissed his studies at campus goodbye because it was his father paying the tuition fees.

“I hid from my family for a full year,” said the singer behind the Mubbi Bubbi collaboration with David Lutalo. “I had to hassle to survive.”

It was difficult being on his own as an upcoming singer who was singing free of charge at most concerts to get his name out there, and he decided to follow the Bible story of the prodigal son and sought to return home.

He apologised to his father live on Bukedde TV when he had the opportunity for an interview.  It turned out the old man had forgiven him and was looking for him.

He continued paying for Maro’s tuition and when the singer started making good money, he decided to take over the burden from his father.

A beaming Maro was glad to graduate because many musicians didn’t go far with education. But he won’t have to look for a job as he can earn what fresh Development Studies graduates earn every month in just one gig.

Congratulations Maro.
