Beat FM and Bukedde TV presenter Katongole Omutongole was released from jail over the weekend after “coming to an agreement” with the family of the girl that he allegedly defiled.
He had been accused of defiling the 14-year-old S.1 student whom he gave a lift from Mityana during the festive season.
Though sources in Police say that Katongole’s defence was that the girl had told him she was 20 years old, he had a different story upon his release.
He visited one of his workplaces, Bukedde a division of Vision Group, accompanied by his teary partner singer Titie Tabel and said the girl’s family wanted to extort money from him because he is a celeb.
Katongole told the Luganda daily newspaper Bukedde that it is true the girl’s family neighbours his Mityana family and he gave her a lift to Kampala.
However, unlike girl’s family’s story that he slept with her, Katongole says he dropped her at the Northern Bypass but she asked for his number so that she could call him to send greetings during his shows.
He told Bukedde that he was surprised that when the girl’s brother called him the next day to extort money from him and that he would report him to police that he defiled the girl if he didn’t give him money.
Katongole says he agreed to meet the girl’s brother John Kakande so that they could talk over the issue and settle it, only for Police detectives who were with Kakande to arrest him and take him to Bweyogerere Police Post.
The Police advised Katongole to talk to the family to settle things amicably and he did as advised and he was later released.
