East Africa dominates Nigeria at AFRIMA Awards in Lagos as Chameleone wins Best Songwriter Award and Diamond Platnmuz takes top honours.

It looks like East Africa is taking the fight to the Nigerians as we dominated the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) held in Lagos Nigeria on Sunday night.

Chameleone won the Songwriter of The Year award.

Homeboy Jose Chameleone bagged the Best Songwriter nod for his Wale Wale but it was our “muko” aka “Ba wa Zari” Diamond Platnumz who was the biggest winner of the night with three gongs including the coveted Artiste Of The Year accolade. He also took home awards for Song Of The Year and Best Male Artiste from East Africa.

Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz is running out of space in his trophy cabinet. He bagged three awards at the Afrimas including the coveted Artiste of The Year.


Kenyan group Sauti Sol beat P-Square to the Best Group award and they also bagged the Best Producer gong.

Tanzania’s Vanessa M’Dee capped the East Africa wins with the Best African Artiste in Pop award.

Singer Juliana Kanyomozi who is currently in Lagos congratulated Chameleone.

“Congratulations to Jose Chameleone on your win. Very proud of you bro. You deserve this and so much more,” she posted on her Facebook wall.

“I will stand for Africa every time I’m given a chance. I write music to represent myself and many from society, so our Voices can be heard. “This award is for you all my people who believe in me and have stood with me amidst all tides. When the Music is heard and appreciated by the people the value is priceless. You Rewarded me, They have Awarded my creativity. Thanks to you all,” the singer said.
