Jose Chameleone jetted into South Africa on Thursday, ahead of the MTV Mamas where he is nominated in the Evolution Award.
Rich Gang members Ivan Semwanga and Ed Cheune picked the star from OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg.
Ten of Africa’s most influential and iconic contemporary musicians were nominated for the “Evolution” Award and we await the winner come the awards ceremony in Durban on Saturday night.
“The MAMA “Evolution” award honours established artistes who have made an indelible mark on African and global music culture, taken African music to new territories around the world, pushed the boundaries of creativity, and shaped the soundscape of contemporary Africa,” says Tim Horwood, the Channel Director, MTV Base.
Meanwhile, Chameleone is grateful to the Ugandan fans who have voted him overwhelmingly in the awards almost doubling his nearest rival D’Banj. However, it is not time to celebrate yet as the category in which Chameleone is nominated is not entirely based on fan’s votes as MTV Base also has a say in who to hand the award to.
” You VOTED. I saw you Hash Tagging the LEGENDARY- The rest is up to them,” Chameleone thanked everyone that voted.
Chameleone is up against e 2Face (Nigeria), Anselmo Ralph (Angola), Asa (Nigeria), Black Coffee (South Africa), D’Banj (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa (DRC), HHP (South Africa), P-Square (Nigeria) and Samini (Ghana).
