Thugs broke into Dr. Maggie Kigozi’s house in Lungujja, Rubaga division on Tuesday night and she was admitted to Nakasero Hospital at 4am following a scuffle with them.

Her two sons, Fred Kigozi and rapper Navio, real names Daniel Kigozi spoke to the media at the hospital on Wednesday and assured the public that she will be fine.

“Mummy will be fine and she will come back strongly,” Fred Kigozi said.

Navio who is used to storytelling through his lyrics narrated how his mum disarmed the thugs who had knives in the house corridor and they ran off like little cowards.

During the scuffle, Dr. Kigozi who is a former Executive Director of Uganda Investment Authority sustained cuts on her left thumb and ring finger.

The thugs broke into the house after cutting through the roof tiles and it was Dr. Kigozi’s niece Brendah Bagonza who saw them and screamed. Dr. Kigozi immediately moved to Bagonza’s room, only to come face to face with the knife wielding assailants in the corridor.

Navio says that his mother told them that the two men were short, bare chested and one wore a mask. She confronted them, disarmed the one who had a knife and they fled, but she together with her niece sustained injuries during the scuffle.

Navio said that Dr. Kigozi foiled the thieves plot and they didn’t take anything from the house.

“My mother is a strong woman and she was able to stop the attackers from taking anything from the house,” he said.

Dr. Kigozi wasn’t allowed to speak to journalists but her boys delivered her message. “She has told us to thank all people who put her in their prayers. She is well now together with her niece,” Navio said.

The two are expected to be discharged this Thursday.

Dr. Maggie Kigozi is the chief scout in Uganda and the scouts’ motto is “Be prepared.” She must have been prepared for the thugs because a scout is not supposed to be taken by surprise. No wonder she overpowered them and they ran.
