It looks like the late Robert Karamagi’s ghost is out to haunt singer Dr Jose Chameleone who was accused of murdering him in late 2012, until the Director of Public Prosecution’s office declared that the Wale Wale singer had no case to answer mid last year.

Now, the DPP, Mike Chibita (father to rapper Benezeri) has ordered that the file be re-opened after the father of the deceased, Maj Benedicto Kyamanywa went to the DPP’s office demanding to know while the suspects were never arrested and why the case was closed without notifying family members.

Maj Kyamanywa said he was away on UPDF duty in Somalia, only to return and be told that no one was prosecuted over the death of his son, so he went to CIID office in Katwe where the case was handled, only to find out that the file had been closed.

The DPP told journalists that the case was closed because there was no sufficient evidence for the it to proceed to court.

“Yes, the file was closed sometime last year but the closing of the file is not a permanent thing. It can be reopened if there is new credible evidence,” Chibita said before ordering a fresh probe into the case.

Karamaji passed away in late 2012 at Mulago Hospital after succumbing to burns he sustained at Chameleone’s home in Seguku, Wakiso district.

What is in contention is how he actually got burnt. Chameleone’s wife Daniella told police during investigations that Karamaji trespassed into their home and set himself ablaze.

However, Karamaji’s father Maj Kyamanywa says that his son told him that his hands were tied with ropes before being doused with fuel and torched.

The DPP advised Kyamanywa to contact police and give them fresh evidence, so that the case can be sanctioned in court in case the evidence is substantial.

Chameleone has not been living in his Seguku house since the incident. He fled the area that had become unsafe for him and his family as neighbours used to pelt his property with stones.
