Nigerian singer Davido pulled a sizable crowd for his show held at Freedom City Mall on Saturday.
There was a scare that the show would flop as party animals turned up late.
Also, Davido’s 2013 concert in Kampala flopped and the show’s promoter fellow Nigerian Chin Cee Cee doesn’t have a good record. He has had a series of flopped concerts and no shows including the one of Jamaican singer Movado that never was.
The Freedom City venue that is out of town, on Entebbe Road has also not been kind to foreign singers, with local artistes filling it to capacity and “international” stars flopping, like was the case for Jamaican Chris Martin, mid this year.
All these factors plus limited publicity and Davido only turning up on Friday night made people think the show would flop.
But this time, Davido had an impressive show. The ordinary section of venue was full and the VIP section was half full.
Things started heating up when Desire Luzinda stepped onto stage to do her Ekitone song at about 11pm. She sent the crowd wild (Her leaked nude photos really helped revive her career).
Pallaso also worked the crowd and little wonder, he got himself a collabo with Davido who liked the Nigerian vibe of his Go Down Low collabo that he did with Sheeba.
He hit studio on Sunday with Davido and they recorded a single titled Twatoba with producer Nash Wonder. We wonder if it will be good enough to help Pallaso cross borders. The collabo his big brother Chameleone did with Davido last year was not good enough even for the local market. Meanwhile Number One, the collabo Davido did with Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz is still a continental chart buster.
Davido dressed in all black worked the crowd with his hits like Aye, Damiduro, Gobe and Tchelete. For those who turned up, the show was worth every penny.
