We blew it again: Cranes need miracle to qualify for Afcon

We are back to familiar territory, where we need calculators, depend on other people’s results and most of all divine intervention if the Uganda Cranes is to break their 36 year jinx and qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Uganda started the campaign well, drawing 1-1 away in Ghana and thumping Guinea 2-0 in Namboole. Then the Cranes pressed the self-destruction button before a capacity crowd losing 0-1  to Togo on Saturday. The Cranes 10-year unbeaten record was erased in Namboole and the result also dimmed our qualification chances.

Last evening, our hopes were diminished when Cranes lost 1-0 to Togo away in Lome. That means the Cranes are at the bottom of the table and we need to win our two remaining games. We play Ghana in Namboole and away in Guinea.

Like the Cranes slogan, “We Believe”, it now requires lots of faith and prayers. Unfortunately in instances where it is not good versus evil, both sides usually seek divine intervention, and in such cases it goes down to “may the best man win.”
