Lynn Mbabazi recorded a statement at Katwe Police Station in which she said received threats from an unidentified person, warning her against talking about circumstances relating to the death of MP Barnabas Tinkasiimire’s first wife Agnes Ageno, a day before she disappeared.
Ageno died last year at Mulago Hospital from severe burns sustained in an arson attack on her house in Mukono while she slept. Tinkasiimire who is MP for Buyaga West, Kibale District later married Mbabazi, but the couple separated eight months ago.
Mbabazi recorded the statement at Katwe Police Station, on Thursday September 18, saying she recognised the caller’s voice as that of Tinkasiimire.
Her statement was recorded under the reference number SD69/18/09/2014 under the charge of threatening violence.
“We were supposed to match the private line she received a phone call. Unfortunately, she disappeared before we had secured the print-out,” said Benon Ayebare, the Katwe Police officer in charge of the case.
MP Tinkasiimire has denied any wrong doing and said she sold a car with a forged logbook prior to her disappearance. Mbabazi had briefly been detained when she went to Katwe Police Station to report the threats. Tinkasiimire had earlier reported a case of theft of the said car, a Toyota Nadia, but Mbabazi told police the car had been a gift.
“She sold a car with forged log book and she is on police pond at Katwe,” Tinkasiimire wrote on his Twitter page.
“I have not called her for the last eight months nor talked to her. How did I threaten her?” Tinkasiimire said.
Meanwhile, the #FindLynn campaign has been trending on Twitter.
Mbabazi’s mother, Mabel Bakeine, who is the Kibale district Woman MP tweeted: “Lynn Mbabazi is my daughter. The family last heard from her on Friday (September 19) at 8am. We are concerned. Help find #Lynn.”
Mbabazi who is an employee of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, was formerly a television presenter on Uganda Broadcasting Corporation. She was also a free-lance plus size model and graced the catwalk during the Bride and Groom expo in 2010.
