Producer Washington Ebangit, singer Angella Katatumba and Sanyu FM morning show host James Onen aka Fatboy have been named as the Ugandan judges of the Airtel-Trace Music star competition.

Thousands of Airtel subscribers have over the past two months participated in the competition, by dialing a short code number on their mobile phones and recording their songs.

The judges’ job is to identify the best Ugandans in the competition that will represent the country in the African finale with 12 other African countries where Airtel has a presence.

The winner of the competition will fly to the USA to be mentored by Akon for a period of two weeks, in addition to a professional record deal with Universal Music.

The participating countries include; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Gabon.

Will Africa’s next biggest music star come from Uganda? Only time will tell.
