The results of the National Census were announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, putting the Ugandan population at only 34.9 million.

It had been estimated that Ugandans had hit the 36 million mark before the census, but results stated otherwise.

Some analysts think the census enumerators didn’t do a good job in counting every Ugandan, but the UBOS Executive Director Ben Mungereza put the low figure at the decreasing level of fertility.

Also, there are more women than men in the country with women standing at 17.9m and men at 16.9m.

Central region has the highest with population with 9.6 million people, Eastern had 9.11 million people, West has 8.1 people and Northern has 7.2 million people.

Wakiso is most populated with two million people followed by Kampala with 1.5 million people.

The last census was in 2002 and it put the Ugandan population at 24 million people.
